characters, Gertrude and Ophelia. Compare and contrast the two
of them in terms of their age, intelligence, agency, as well as
their erotic lives as either actually lived or obsessively imagined
by Hamlet. How far do they understand, or do they participate
in, their public and private lives? How much power do they
have in relation to the men surrounding them? In what scene do
they appear together on stage, and how do they acknowledge
each other? Compare their ambiguously suicidal death scenes,
as described or performed.
