Project Proposal Assignment
Later this semester, you will write an argumentative essay in which you will research a social issue and write an essay on that issue. Before you write the essay, you must figure out what you will research, so the first step is to write a project proposal for your Argumentative essay. The audience of this memo will be your instructor.
Write a 2-3 page proposal (double-spaced) to me that details the topic you will be working on for the Argumentative essay. Please make sure to write the information under each section in complete sentences. You should write this memo in Times New Roman 12-point font.
Other information:
• Times New Roman
• 12-point font
• Submit as a Word document or a Google document (make sure I have editing access)
Please organize your information into the following sections:
Topic:
Start your proposal with the topic you want to research for your argumentative essay.
Background:
Provide enough background on the topic so that the reader knows what the paper is about and how it fits in to the existing conversation on the subject. Answer the following questions in sentence/paragraph format (not bullet points). You do not have to answer all the bullet points but try to answer at least half.
1) What is the issue? Provide specific details about the issue. If you can, provide an example that demonstrates this is a real problem.
2) When did this problem arise?
3) What historical information is relevant to this problem?
4) Who is this problem affecting?
5) Do you need to provide any definitions? If so, provide the definition in this section.
6) What is currently being done about the issue?
7) Who can resolve this issue? (This will be your target audience).
8) What could be/will be the consequences for not solving the issue?
9) State why you think your project is important.
10) Call for action: What do you want your reader to do after reading your work?
Audience Analysis of Your Project (this won’t be me):
1) Who will your essay be aimed toward (who will your audience be?)
2) What stake does your audience have in your research? What power do they have to solve the issue?
3) What rhetorical strategies might you implement to successfully convince your audience? (Think about the advertisements we analyzed rhetorically and the strategies they used to reach their target audience)
Qualifications and Experience (Ethos Statement):
1) Why did you pick this topic? What drew you to your topic?
2) What do you already know about your topic?
3) Have you done research/work on your topic before? If so, describe those experiences.
