Thesis Statement
The lack of sufficient community mental health services has resulted in the criminalization of mental illness, overburdening correctional facilities with inmates who have psychiatric disorders; implementing alternative interventions focused on rehabilitation and treatment rather than incarceration could improve outcomes for both individuals and public safety
