Group Dynamics Channeling the Child Within
Channel: 1. The bed of a stream. 2. The deeper part of a river or a harbor. 3. A passage. 4. Official routes of communication. 5. A specified frequency band for the reception and transmission of electromagnetic signals.
The child within you is indeed a deep part of you. The child is always with you, no matter how little or how much you know about it.
The child within us is a profound source of knowledge about our life adventures and ourselves. The child in most of us has wounds that have yet to be completely healed. The child within us is a source of energy. The child within us preserves our hope and ability to love deeply. Communicating regularly with the child within us is in our best interest. I believe the child within us guards our feelings and tries to protect us. I believe that the child within us has gifts to give us. We have gifts to give the child within us.
Part 1
To begin this conversation, you first post a picture of yourself as a child.
Part 2
Describe a toy or memorabilia (a picture would be helpful) that you enjoyed as a child.
Part 3
Stand in front of a mirror. Hold the childhood picture beside or below your face; however, you can hold it so you can gaze back and forth between that pictured face and your actual today face. Do this for two to three minutes. Notice your thoughts. After this time has elapsed, write your thoughts and impressions for another 2-3 minutes.
Part 4 Reflective Discussion on Childhood experiences.
Briefly answer the following questions in essay form.
What were your favorite games or forms of play when you were a child? Examine each of them and try to understand what you got from them.
How do you integrate play into your life as an adult?
What does having fun mean to you now?
How do you define (and feel) childlike feelings or behaviors now?
What feelings or attitudes could you try to incorporate into your life now that might bring some positive change?
How much laughter is present in your life? Is it enough? If not, how could you get more?
How fearful are you of letting go of what others might think?
Other reactions, questions, and comments about the in-class child-related exercises and the thoughts or feelings they provoked.
