You will review the history of terrorist attacks on 9/11 and discuss how the inception of homeland security and the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) impacted the criminal justice field. Also, you will discuss human rights policing and how to make ethical dilemmas and decisions when dealing with homeland security and criminal justice.
Activity Instructions
Using the Case Study Template as a guide,
Write a case report on how the creation of the Department of Homeland Security impacted law enforcement operations at the local, state, and federal levels.
Discuss the controversy of the militarization of law enforcement as a direct result of 9/11.
Provide analysis and your recommendation on how police officers should, or should not, include domestic security in protecting the homeland as part of their law enforcement operations. Be sure to thoroughly explain and provide sources to support and substantiate your academic position.
At the end of your submission, include a brief Design Statement explaining the process and tools you used to develop your work.
