essay instructions:
Write an argumentative research essay (introduction paragraph, two argumentative body paragraphs, counterargument/rebuttal paragraph, and conclusion paragraph) that takes a position on a current issue as assigned by your teacher. Embed two specific and relevant pieces of textual evidence for support per paragraph and explain your reasoning in detail for your reader. You must cite at least four sources total in your paper and include a works cited page.
Checklist:
An introduction paragraph with a hook, background information, and they say/I say thesis with two specific reasons
A body paragraph with an argumentative topic sentence (about reason #1 from the thesis), specific embedded evidence from two different sources (cited with in-text citations), multiple sentences of commentary that explain how the evidence supports your point, and a concluding sentence that ties back to your position in the thesis
A second body paragraph with an argumentative topic sentence (about reason #2 from the thesis) with a connection from the first reason to the second reason, specific embedded evidence from two different sources (cited with in-text citations), multiple sentences of commentary that explain how the evidence supports your point, and a concluding sentence that ties back to your position in the thesis
A separate paragraph that acknowledges the counter/concession and offers a rebuttal that reinforces your argument
A conclusion paragraph that uses one (or more) of the following strategies: statement of significance, look towards the future, question to push the conversation forward, call to action, and does not just repeat thesis
A works cited page that cites every source you use in your essay
